Dressing Baby For Halloween

You will have experienced many joys and delights with being the parent of a new baby. Special family occasions are that much better if there is a lovable new member of the family, so why should Halloween be any different? There is no reason why, if your baby is fit and well, they shouldn't join the millions of Americans who celebrate Halloween with fun and parties every year.

Dressing up your baby for Halloween will make a change for both of you from the usual baby clothes that hitherto may have dominated the baby's short life. The baby will not understand what's going on, but should sense the fun and companionship, so it will form a part of the baby's learning.

There are a few basic and simple rules for babies and Halloween. Firstly, it is probably best to attach yourself to a group of friends with children who are a little bit older, otherwise it is obvious that you are just out getting candy and playing dress up. This is not vital, however, since many candy givers will be too distracted by how lovely your baby is to care if you are the one who will eat the sweets.

The second rule is that you should be careful of the material used for your baby's costume. Many store bought costumes are made of synthetic materials that are highly flammable, and also not very breathable for baby's sensitive skin. The third is to ensure that the costume appropriate for the weather that time of year. Check the long range forecast before buying, hiring or making the baby's Halloween outfit. You do not want the baby to be too hot or too cold because of a hat, or a lack of mittens.

As far as materials go, a good way to avoid irritation to the baby's skin, or undue worry over the safety of the baby's costume, is to use a base that is already clothing that the baby is used to. For example, you can add a headband with ears and some painted on whiskers to a grey fuzzy pyjama set, as this makes for ansuper little mouse. In colder weather, though, the same idea works with outerwear. Does your baby have a black coverall snowsuit? You could convert that into a gorgeous little baby seal.

If you have warmer weather around Halloween, avoid face paints that are likely to melt. Also, do not have animal themed costumes that require a lot of coverage. For something like a cat or zoo animal, the same basic idea applies, but a onesie or thin cotton romper with sleeves and legs works. Make sure you take a blanket with you, because once the sun goes down the temperature can be unpredictable at Halloween time of year.

Another great thing about dressing up with your baby is that you can both be part of a theme. You can have a living, breathing accessory for your own grown up costume. Some fun examples include:

*Mom, Dad, and baby dressed identically as three sizes of Russian dolls *

*A baby bumblebee and a mother or father flower

*A baby moth and a mommy or daddy flame.

*A baby tinkerbell and a daddy Peter Pan

Just let your imagination run wild, and have fun.
